Situated between Knutsford and Macclesfield, the rural ward of Mobberley is made of numerous small but dynamic parish communities. As the Covid-19 pandemic encroaches into everybodies lives, Cllr Charlotte Leach offers her own perspective on both her responses to the crisis and that of the communities that she supports in her Ward.
“Over the last few weeks, the coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on every community across the country. Whilst at times, the media has been flooded with images of those flouting lockdown rules, overwhelmingly the experience has brought the communities I represent together.
Across all of my villages – Mobberley, Ashley, Great Warford, Little Warford and Tatton, there have been so many examples of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The sense of community spirit and care and consideration given to those most in need of support has, at times, left me speechless.
I want to pay tribute to every single volunteer who has offered a helping hand during these difficult times. Whether that be picking up a prescription for an elderly neighbour who is self-isolating or taking the time to reach out to someone who may be struggling with loneliness, every deed, no matter how small, can help.
I want to pay tribute to the joint work of Mobberley Parish Council, Mobberley Neighbourhood Watch, The Mobberley Trust and both local churches, alongside the many volunteers who have taken part in the local village initiative. This group has been so proactive that when a request for help comes in, there are numerous offers from volunteers. It has been heart-warming to see and I have been proud to be involved.
If you need assistance, please call 01625 462 344.
These are also extremely challenging times for our local businesses. Where businesses have been able, I have seen innovative solutions in response to this crisis. For example, the new ‘Pub Hub’ at the Bulls Head and Roebuck Inn allowing local residents to order from a ‘Just Heat’ menu and the ‘Community Boxes’ being delivered by the team at The Frozen Mop.
We are also extremely lucky to be able to purchase high quality produce from businesses such as Waugh Brow Farm in Mobberley and Fenton’s Farm Foods in Rostherne.
These are extraordinarily difficult times, but I have never felt more privileged to represent my local community than I do right now.
We all have our part to play and so I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to stay at home, protect the NHS and help save lives.”
