New Congleton team June 22md 2026

Congleton Conservative Association – covering Congleton, Sandbach, Alsager and Holmes Chapel - has announced its new leadership team following its Annual General Meeting, with a call for Conservative voters across the constituency to get involved.

Sean Houlston has been elected Chairman of the Association, with Mike Benson elected President. Ann Jones and Rhoda Bailey will serve as Vice Presidents, David Crompton continues as Treasurer, Cllr Liz Wardlaw has been elected Deputy Chairman Political, Alison Rodwell has been elected Deputy Chairman Membership, and Cllr Patrick Redstone will serve as Membership Engagement Officer.

The new team will lead the Association as it prepares for a major year of campaigning, including the Cheshire and Warrington Mayoral election, the next Cheshire East Council elections, and preparations for the next General Election. The Association said the political events of recent days, including Keir Starmer’s resignation as Prime Minister, showed that British politics is moving quickly and that local Conservative organisations must be ready.

Sean Houlston, Chairman of Congleton Conservative Association, said:

“I am honoured to have been elected Chairman and grateful to members for their confidence. Our new team is focused on building a stronger, more active and better organised Association that is ready to win again. If you vote Conservative and want to see lower taxes, responsible public spending, strong borders, backing for business and support for families, now is the time to get involved.”

The Association said it would focus on recruiting new members, re-engaging existing supporters, strengthening local campaigning and building a year-round organisation across Congleton, Sandbach, Alsager, Holmes Chapel and surrounding communities.

The Association also paid tribute to outgoing Chairman Cllr Patrick Redstone, who has served in the role for five years, and outgoing President Rhoda Bailey, who has served the Conservative Party locally in a number of roles over many years.

The new Congleton Conservative Association team is:

Chairman: Sean Houlston
President: Mike Benson
Vice Presidents: Ann Jones and Rhoda Bailey
Treasurer: David Crompton
Deputy Chairman Political: Cllr Liz Wardlaw
Deputy Chairman Membership: Alison Rodwell
Membership Engagement Officer: Cllr Patrick Redstone

The Association said its focus for the coming year will be membership growth, fundraising, year-round campaigning and stronger organisation as it prepares for upcoming elections across Cheshire and Warrington. Local residents who support the Conservatives and want to get involved are encouraged to contact Congleton Conservative Association.
