Councillors Challenge Resident Car Parking Permit Sales.

Last week, CE Councillors received the decision notice offering Resident Parking Permits on specific CE Car Parks (subject to ‘Referral’ of the decision to Council). This decision was approved by the Highways and Transport Committee (HTC) last January, following public consultation.

HOWEVER, Councillor Sue Adams has been contacted by concerned Community Leaders, suggesting residential parking permits sales on the Community Centre short-stay car park in Disley are already underway.

Cllr Adams shares their concerns stating;

“This car park, with only 30 short-stay spaces, is essential for visitors to the Parish Council offices, community events and Library on site. It’s also vital for those attending the GP surgery, shops or visiting Crabtree Court.” On investigation, this decision may be being implemented in error.

After consultation, the HTC Decision papers (Appendix 3) identified that seven of the car parks named in last week’s notice, were not appropriate for residential Parking Permits and Disley’s Community Car Park is one. The fact that permits may be being advertised and purchased before the member referral period ends on 26th November is also concerning.

Cllr Janet Clowes, (with Members of the Conservative Group), has referred the ‘decision notice’ to the CEC Monitoring Officer, explaining;

“The HTC decision is not questioned but potentially implementing the decision before the end of the Member Referral period and what appears to be a significant deviation from the HTC’s decision, needs urgent investigation and correction if necessary”.

The Cheshire East Monitoring Officer has received the Referral and Officers and Members will discuss these issues at a meeting On Thursday.

In the meantime, the processing of Resident Parking Permit Applications on the seven identified Car Parks has been halted.
