Cllrs Wardlaw & redstone - School Bus petition

Cllr Liz Wardlaw and Cllr Patrick Redstone have launched a local campaign calling on Labour-led Cheshire East Council to reverse its decision to remove free school transport from Rode Heath to Alsager High School.

The decision affects at least 90 local children and has caused serious concern among parents and residents. The alternative route suggested by the council would require pupils to walk for over an hour along roads with poor lighting, inadequate crossings and no continuous safe footpath.

The greatest concern is around the route from the Lawton Arms towards Lawton Lights, where the footpath ends and children would be expected to make an unsafe detour. The crossing arrangements at Lawton Lights do not give pedestrian priority, raising further concerns about the safety of young people walking to and from school.

Cllr Liz Wardlaw and Cllr Patrick Redstone said:

“This decision is completely unacceptable. Local children should not be expected to walk for over an hour along a route with poor lighting, unsafe crossings and no continuous footpath. We are calling on Cheshire East Council to reconsider this decision and use the special circumstances provision in its own transport policy.”

The councillors are asking residents, parents and local supporters to complete the survey and back the campaign to save the Rode Heath school bus.
